Immersive learning Our comprehensive Birth Emergency Skills Training® (BEST) online program provides 10 hours of evidence-based learning divided into 6 modules. Each module is divided into topic-focused lessons presented in audio/video format. Short films of techniques and emergency management of emergencies reinforce learning and provide opportunity for discussion. Each module includes plenty of extra content, such as written highlights, equipment checklists, downloadable PDF files, and other resources. We begin with learning BEST® foundational concepts, algorithms, mnemonics and the key components of a safe transfer. This is followed by a new module on racial disparities which explores the impact of systemic racism and investigates strategies to better serve people of color. From there, we dive into antepartum emergencies, including trauma; shock; bleeding; hypertensive disorders; preterm labor and malpresentations. Next we tackle intrapartum emergencies including shoulder dystocia; surprise breech and twin births; and cord prolapse. Our postpartum module explores the root causes of postpartum hemorrhage and targets management accordingly. We end with a review of monitoring fetal heart tones (FHTs) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines. The reflection portion of each module encourages participants to review the course content, consider how to put new evidence to practical use, and adjust their practice guidelines accordingly. Participants can share stories on the discussion board, ask questions, and interact with both the instructors and other participants. Get started with BEST Online today!
