Live and hybrid workshops
Customized for your group, conference, or school--at YOUR location! What is a BEST workshop? Birth Emergency Skills Training® (BEST) is the longest-running emergency skills course for community midwives, proudly educating thousands since 2008. BEST prepares midwives, nurses, birth assistants, and other professionals to manage obstetrical emergencies with greater confidence and proficiency. Participants build on core competencies and apply current evidence to clinical practice though lively discussion and mentored simulation. The BEST course includes a systematic approach to:
Why do I need BEST?
Midwives who attend births at home and in free-standing birth centers work with low-risk clientele and seldom encounter emergencies. Yet life-threatening pregnancy and delivery complications may arise unexpectedly during an otherwise normal labor. In a crisis, the birth attendant must respond adeptly, but techniques seldom practiced decay over time, and ongoing research brings new recommendations. BEST sharpens skills so that providers may confidently manage obstetrical emergencies. Additionally, many regulatory bodies require midwives to complete emergency skills trainings to maintain certification or licensure. The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) requires at least 15 contact hours (including a hands-on component) in maternal and neonatal emergency training to obtain the CPM Midwifery Bridge Certificate. American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) certificate maintenance program accepts CE units from Birth Emergency Skills Training (ACNM CE hours 16 = 1.6) towards the 20 hour contact hours requirement per 5 year cycle. Attending a live BEST program is as easy as checking our calendar tab and contacting the host of the workshop you would like to join. Or, you may arrange your own workshop by contacting us for details. BEST Hybrid Workshop Step by step Step 1: Check out our Calendar tab and register with the host of the workshop you would like to attend. Your registration commitment includes completion of the online 9 -10 hour course prior to attending the hands-on workshop. Step 2. Complete the BEST online program (approximately 9 -10 hours of presentations and videos) prior to attending the 1-day hands-on skills workshop. You will be provided with the link 3 weeks prior to the in-person meeting date. By transferring the lecture portion of the former 2-day workshop into an easy-to-use accessible online program, we are able to provide more information than ever before in an easy to use and assimilate format. In this way, you can move at your own pace and repeat lessons as desired so you will be well-prepared to hone your skills in the hands-on practicum. Step 3: Attend the Birth Emergency Skills Training (BEST) workshop. Practice with models. Learn new techniques with instructor facilitated skills stations. Train your hands and build muscle memory. Work through simulations and drills with humor and camaraderie. Return home with your skilled hands, prepared to give your BEST to the women and babies you serve. Step 4: Complete the online program evaluation AFTER the live workshop and your certificate will be emailed to you within the week. |
