Andrea Dixon RN, CNM, BEST Instructor and designer of the BEST workshop, has studied midwifery since 1980. As home birth practitioner, she attended women in the largest geographical area of California while co managing a busy birth center. More recently, full scope partner in a large, high risk, urban hospital practice coupled with home and birth center midwifery she has attended over 1,000 births. Currently she offers NRP training and PRN coverage for home birth midwifery practices through Family Way Services, Indiana. She has designed and instructed Birth Emergency Skills Training and other online Midwifery Curriculum since 2008.

Bonnie is the author of Birth Emergency Skills Training; Manual for Out-of-Hospital Midwives and co-developer of the workshop by the same name. Her 2025 book Birth Emergencies for Community Midwives is the most comprehensive book on the topic. She has caught thousands of babies in the home and community settings. She currently works for Wellspan Health in Lancaster County, PA. Bonnie has written and illustrated 15 books on topics ranging from midwifery and maternity care to wild horse management. She is currently completing the second edition of Birth Emergency Skills Training and is developing a eclectic tutorial website at www.HowWeDIDthat.com. She enjoys pottery, painting, photography, film making, hiking, and hobby farming.

Avril Bowens, CPM, BSN-RN, is an instructor with the Birth Emergency Skills Training® workshop and co-developer of the comprehensive online program. Involved with birth since 1998, she owned and operated a small home birth midwifery practice, Mountain Home Maternity, in the North Carolina mountains for 15 years. She also worked as a hospital based RN while attending the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at Georgetown University, a program she was unable to complete due to a serious accident.  She is also the developer of a comprehensive, 9 month long, online program that empowers women to have an optimal and transformative pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. The Midwife Method is excited to be launching in fall of 2021 and will bring the Midwives Model of Care to women across North America.​
